Piet Mondrian

Piet Mondrian (born Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan; Amersfoort, March 7, 1872 – New York, February 1, 1944) was a Dutch avant-garde painter.

He was a member of the De Stijl movement and a founder of Neoplasticism, along with Theo van Doesburg. He evolved from naturalism and symbolism to abstraction, of which he is the principal pioneering exponent, along with the Russians Wassily Kandinsky and Kazimir Malevich.
