David Halberstam was an American journalist and historian, and the author of fifteen books. His career began in the second half of the 1950s with coverage of the Civil Rights Movement and continued in the 1960s with a correspondent's post during the Vietnam War. He later turned to sports journalism, focusing especially on basketball. During his career, he was awarded every major journalism award, including the Pulitzer Prize.
