This book is meant by South epistemology search of knowledge and knowledge validity criteria that give visibility and cognitive practices credibilicen classes, peoples and those who have been historically victimized social groups, exploited and oppressed by colonialism and global capitalism. The South is therefore used here as a metaphor of human suffering systematically caused by colonialism and capitalism. It is a South that also exists in the geographic Global North, the so-called Third World inside the hegemonic countries. In turn, the geographical global South itself contains not only the systematic suffering caused by colonialism and the global capitalism but also local practices of complicity with those. Such practices constitute the imperial South. Southern South epistemology is the anti-imperial South. The first premise of the essays collected here is that no global social justice without global cognitive justice. The second is that, as in the beginning, capitalism and colonialism remain deeply intertwined, although the forms of articulation have changed over time. The third is that South epistemology practices aimed primarily at enhancing the knowledge that will enable social transformation.
