Inspired initially by Neruda's elemental odes, this book seeks to poetize the everyday in its simultaneously casual and wondrous aspects. The sonnets recount discoveries, walks, and diverse reflections. Some are commissions in which I set myself the task of sonnetizing an object or a scene, be it a piñata, a soap bubble, or a forest in the mist. Others engage in dialogue with writers and works of art. There is a tender sonnet to my pet, sports sonnets, and a charmingly quarrelsome sonnet. As for the tone, seriousness and humor alternate, aiming to encompass a wide spectrum of attitudes and emotions. May readers find moments of recognition within the variety of these compositions.
