The Form of Ideas studies pamphlets from the first decades of the 19th century in New Spain (1808-1820) as an essential part of its literary culture. In this work, pamphlets are conceived as symbolic artifacts that embody the expression of individuals in the public sphere. Two textual genres guide the reflections on the horizon of literary culture: the letter and the dialogue, which shaped the most heated debates during the dramatic period of transition in New Spain: sovereignty, constitutionalism, independence... Ephemeral, portable, and commonplace, pamphlets are a source that allows us to feel the pulse of the immediate; this is a pioneering study of these fragile materials. The Form of Ideas includes a CD with a selection of 50 pamphlets from the period studied, belonging to the Lafragua Collection of the Reserved Collection of the National Library of Mexico.
