The Introduction (Einleitung) was first published in 1903 by Kautsky. Several years later, in 1939-1941, the Marx-Engels-Lenin Institute in Moscow published an edition in which it is possible to detect “remarkable mismatches” with respect to the 1903 edition. In 1947, and then in 1953, Berlin publishing house Dietz published two new editions, the last of which differs from both the 1947 and Moscow. But in 1964, with reissue in 1969, the most recent original publication was made in Berlin: the Werke of Marx and Engels. Beyond any phylological or merely learned desire, it is a question of establishing whether the Introduction belongs to the Contribution or the Grundrisse, for depending on their belonging the interpretation of it would vary. Following this thread, Umberto Curi, author of the introductory essay, states: “The reintegration of the Einleitung to the Grundrisse is organically inserted in a proposal for a more general reading of the Marxian text, appropriate to restore its very rich theoretical importance and its living political relevance.
