Vaslav Nijinsky

Vaslav Nijinsky

Vaslav Nijinsky (Kiev, 1889 – London, 1950) was one of the most celebrated dancers in the history of dance. An admired actor and brilliant choreographer, his many artistic achievements include Stravinsky's ballet The Rite of Spring, a true milestone in the history of modern art. He was legendary both for the roles he played—exotic, androgynous, with strong sexual content—and for his personal life—his homosexual relationship with Diaghilev, director of the Ballets Russes. The early end of his career due to insanity finally elevated him to the status of myth. Acantilado has published his Diary (2003). Photo: Eugène Druet.
