
Eleanore Marie Sarton, known by her pen name May Sarton, (Wondelgem, May 3, 1912 – York, July 16, 1995) was an American poet, novelist, and memoirist. Of Belgian and American descent, she is considered a key contemporary figure in American literature, as well as a 'poet's poet,' and is admired by literary critics and feminists for her works that address themes of gender, sexuality, and universality.
