Gustavo Roldán was born in Sáenz Peña, Chaco Province, Argentina, on August 16, 1935. He graduated with a degree in Modern Literature from the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at the National University of Córdoba.

He contributed to the children's magazines Humi and Billiken. He published numerous children's books that have become classics.
He won first prize in the International Children's Story Contest, the Periquillo Prize (Mexico), the Third Prize in the Libraries of Literature Competition, and the National Arts Fund Prize.
