Chen Xiwo was born in 1953 in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province (People's Republic of China). He is a writer and professor of comparative literature at Fujian Normal University. The Asian Sentinel considers him one of the most important voices in the fight for freedom of expression in China.
