Aware now as we are of history, of its errors and our errors in it, the task of decolonizing Jesus Christ becomes necessary and urgent. Starting from where? First of all, returning it to its Semitic universe, recovering its Aramaic language, and thus freeing it from religious categories - sin, guilt, redemption, atonement, penance, sacrifice, mortification, resignation, fallen nature ... ̶- who have spent two thousand years flogging his memory and crucifying peoples in his name. Theological notions, all of them inconceivable in Aramaic and from the sensibility of Jesus.

Faced with the slightest effort we make to decolonize Jesus Christ, we will observe how, automatically, his word becomes hospitable to communities and people alien to Christianity. Of course, the Aramaic Jesus is again recognizable from the Jewish tradition from which he emerged and without which he would be completely unintelligible, but also from the Islamic tradition that are heirs of his spirituality and his ritual practices. The Aramaic Jesus also becomes a place of encounter with the primitive Judeo-Christian community while Jesus clearly recognizes himself in his condition as a prophet; and it even becomes a meeting place with peoples without written tradition when it is clothed with shamanic and thaumaturgical characteristics... If only for that, it would be worthwhile to prepare ourselves to hear his word in his mother tongue.
