One of the great contributions of the Jesuit martyr Ignacio Ellacuría (1930-1989) was theological hermeneutics, that is, the interpretation from our historical present of the announcement of Salvation offered by God to Israel (Old Testament) and to all humanity through Jesus Christ. (New Testament), welcomed throughout the history of the Churches. In this essay, José Sols Lucia presents a pedagogical tour of the thought of some of the most interesting philosophers and hermeneutical theologians, to show that in the work of Christians for a just and humane world (Kingdom of God), hermeneutics and praxis go hand in hand, in such a way that one cannot be understood without the other.
