The Song of the Nibelungs is undoubtedly one of the crowning works of medieval European literature. As such it was recognized by UNESCO in 2009, which included it within the Documentary Heritage of Humanity, in its list of the Memory of the World Register. It is not an easy work, as masterpieces usually are not. This song of feat brings together many of the existing legends about the Germanic peoples, mixed with historical facts and mythological beliefs that, due to the depth of its content, complexity and variety of characters, became the German national epic, with the same literary hierarchy del Cantar de mio Cid in Spain and the Cantar de Roldán in France. The scarcity of complete translations and the total absence of any that are in regular verse, makes it essential to translate this fundamental text into Spanish again. This will therefore be the first complete and direct metric translation of the original of the Cantar into the Spanish language.
