The Polish writer Adam Zagajewski was born in Lvov ( now in Ukraine) in 1945. He spent his childhood in Gliwice, Silesia , where his parents were repatriated shortly after the birth of the writer. He studied psychology and philosophy at the University of Krakow. He debuted in 1967 in the journal " Literary Life." Now a member of the poetry group (1968-1975) , is one of the most prominent poets of the Generation of 68 or New Wave, along with Julian Kornhauser , Ewa Lipska , and Stanislaw Ryszard Krynicki Baranczak , among others. Zagajewski emigrated from Poland in 1982 and settled in Paris.
Since 1989 he is a visiting associate professor at the University of Houston, where he participated in the " Creative Writing Program ." In 2002 he returned home and currently resides in Krakow .
Among the many literary awards he has received include the Prix de la Liberté Pen Club of France ( 1987) , the Literature Prize of the Konrad Adenauer Weimar (2002 ) and Horst Bienek Foundation Award from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bavaria ( 2003 ) .
His name started ringing among the possible candidates for the Nobel Prize for Literature.
