Nicolás Jouve de la Barreda

Nicolas Jouve de la Barreda. Doctor in Biological Sciences from the Complutense University (1973). He has been Professor of Genetics at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the Basque Country and Alcalá. He accepted a Chair at the University of Córdoba in 1980 and moved to the University of Alcalá, where he is currently Professor Emeritus. He has been President of the Spanish Society of Genetics (1990-1994). He received the “Research Award” (1991) and the “Teaching Award” (1996) from the Social Council of the University of Alcalá. He is a guest researcher at institutions in Italy and the USA. He has taught Genetics, Biotechnology and Bioethics courses in Chile (1996), Nicaragua (1998), Argentina (2001) and Peru (2013). He was Professor of the science module of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Biolaw. He has more than 200 publications, most of them in international genetics, cytogenetics and genomics journals, and is the author of several books on Genetics and Bioethics topics. He has directed 21 doctoral theses. He is Professor of the master's degree in "Bioethics and Training" at the Catholic University of Ávila, of Bioethics at the Rey Juan Carlos University and a member of the advisory board of the Jerome Lejeune Foundation in Spain. Since January 2013 he has been a member of the "Spanish Bioethics Committee".
